Gurdwara Dera Sahib, located in Lahore, Pakistan, is one of the most sacred Sikh shrines. It marks the site where Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru, attained martyrdom in 1606. The gurdwara stands as a symbol of sacrifice, devotion, and resilience, drawing thousands of Sikh pilgrims every year.
The original shrine marking this historic site was established by Sikh devotees, but the present-day structure was commissioned by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the 19th century. The gurdwara, with its golden dome and intricate Sikh-Mughal architecture, is located near the Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque, making it a significant part of the city’s historical landscape. Inside, the sanctum enshrines the memory of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, and Sikh pilgrims gather here to recite hymns from Guru Granth Sahib and pay their respects.

Historical Background
- Guru Arjan Dev Ji (1563-1606), the fifth Guru of Sikhism, was the first Sikh martyr.

- In 1606, Guru Arjan was arrested and brought to Lahore, where he was subjected to severe torture.
- He was made to sit on a burning hot plate, and boiling sand was poured over him.
